James is a documentary filmmaker focused on the mythologies, realities, and legacies of ownership.

I’m invested in how our lives fit into complex landscapes of belonging, possession, and loss. For nearly a decade, my work in non-fiction storytelling has examined how legacies are cultivated, performed, preserved, broken, and lost at the local level.

At any scale of story, I ask: What makes life valuable? Who decides whether that value will be recognized? What do the answers imply for most of us, who find ourselves on a vast page of history, unable to grasp the pencil that will etch our experiences into it or evade forces that could wipe them from the human record?

My strongest hats are:

  • Director (documentary and non-fiction media)
  • Creative Producer (documentary and non-fiction media)
  • Production Manager (all-purpose, all web-based media)
  • Videographer (a.k.a. one-man film crew)

If you'd like to collaborate, then please write me a letter telling what you want to create!

JAMES IS GOOD TO HAVE ON YOUR TEAM WHEN IDEAS NEED TO GET REAL.

I am available for hire as a management and operations consultant. I've built and managed editorial teams, software development teams, consulting teams, big data infrastructure, print magazines, international online classrooms, and one hell of an animated gif library.

If you have a compelling product or objective, and you want to be sure your organization will be as strong as your vision, then get in touch with your pitch.
